“Celebrating Islamic Art” Islamic Students’ Movement of Trinity College Kandy

KANDY : The 52nd Annual General Meeting organized by the Islamic Students’ Movement of Trinity College Kandy commenced on the 25th of February at the college’s main hall.  

A spectacular display of Islamic diversity and culture spread before an enthusiastic audience.  

The chief guest Mr. Afzal Marikkar and the guest of honor Mr. Azam Jawar, both being old boys of Trinity, graced the occasion.  

The program opened with a recital by a student from a visiting school. Master Amhar, president of the ISM of TCK, warmly welcomed the guests. This was followed by a speech from the MIC and, by the Principal Rev. Father Araliya Jayasundara.  

Among the highlights, a poignant and motivational introductory video and a mesmerizing performance based on the 99 names of God brought out the skills and creativity of the younger Trinitians.  

In addition, a jaw-dropping play on the five pillars of Islam was staged by the students of grade 6, under the guidance of Mr. Inzimam. 

Later, Master Amal Ahmed performed a song, paving the way for the Inter School Awards ceremony which was a much-anticipated event.  

After a short break, the students of grades 11 and 12 staged a play that was both in Tamil and English, entertaining the audience, with large doses of humour and wit. They included morals which everyone could benefit from. The Middle School students sang a Quaseeda in both English and Tamil. The team appreciates the hard work of their teachers: Mrs. F.D. Farzan, Mrs. F.S.Naufar and Mr Z.Zaruk. 

The launch of the Al Huda Magazine for the year 2024 was a memorable occasion.  The magazines were first gifted to the chief guest, the guest of honor, the Principal, the Vice Principal, and the Co-Vice Principal of TCK. 

Tokens of appreciation were gifted to the teachers and judges for their support and presence. The presentation of how the committee of 23’ engaged in a charity project by helping the poor and a children’s home was also presented afterward.  

To mark the conclusion of this special event, Mr. Afzal Marikkar, the chief guest, addressed the audience with his inspirational words. 

Hillwood College Kandy, St. Silvester’s College Kandy, Girls High School Kandy, D.S. Senanayake College Colombo, and Aminah National School Matale were some of the prominent schools that participated to build up a successful event. 

The most awaited moment drew near. It was the time to announce the top 5 schools that had performed their best. A countdown began for the announcement of the champion school; D.S. Senanayake College Colombo emerged champions.  They showed immense courage to conquer the shield. The runner-up was St. Sylvester’s College Kandy, while Aminah National School, was placed  2nd runners up. 

To conclude the event, the secretary spoke a few words on behalf of the committee and the members of the club, conveying his heartfelt gratitude towards each and every individual for lending their supportive hands.  This was followed by the school song and the national anthem. Lastly,a Salawath was recited by Master Sabith Hassan.
