Rs. 60 Mn Bambalapitiya Railway Station upgrade completed with Bohra community funding

The newly renovated Bambalapitiya Railway Station was reopened for public use today (Sept. 10) under the Dream Destination national programme, implemented alongside the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.

The station was upgraded through a public-private partnership at a cost of Rs. 60 million, with funding provided by Sri Lanka’s Dawoodi Bohra community.

The renovation includes improvements to the main building, Platforms 1 and 2, sanitation facilities, electricity and water services, CCTV systems, a newly constructed footbridge between the main road and railway line, and other station infrastructure.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended the reopening ceremony. The project was completed within five months after renovation work began on March 19, 2026.
