The Government has announced a complete ban on the promotion and use of alcohol and drugs at any event organised using a school’s name or logo.
Under the new directive, any event using a school’s name or logo will be considered a school event and will be subject to the prohibition.
Education Ministry Circular No. 2026/10 empowers the Secretary to the Ministry of Education to immediately prohibit any event found to be violating the directive.
Officials said the measures were introduced following repeated complaints from parents that students were being exposed to alcohol and drugs during major cricket encounters involving leading schools.
“Any event representing a school or using its logo is prohibited from promoting drugs and alcohol. An event held using the school logo is a school event, and no intoxicating substances should be used at such an event,” an Education Ministry official said.
The ministry said the directive will be strictly monitored, including at major school cricket matches. (Newswire)
