Muslims’ places of worship are under constant threat in India: Owaisi

New Delhi: All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi, expressing concern over the religious landscape in India has said that Muslims’ places of worship are under constant threat.

Addressing a rally in New Delhi, Asaduddin Owaisi said, the Muslims have lost Babri Masjid in Ayodhya where they worshipped for 500 years (Babri Masjid in Ayodhya). “You can see what’s happening there now,” he said referring to the planned inauguration ceremony of Hindus’ Ram Temple built on the ruins of the mosque established in 1527.

His remarks came at a time when the Hindutva forces and the authorities are planning to demolish South Delhi’s Sunehri Masjid.

Owaisi urged the Muslims in India to maintain their strength and encouraged the youth to actively participate in preserving their mosques. He said, “Young people, maintain your milli hammiyyat (community concern) and strength and keep the mosques populated, otherwise our mosques will be taken away from us.”

The AIMIM president raised questions about the bias against Muslims, wondering why the BJP and the Narendra Modi-led government harbor so much animosity towards mosques and the sounds emanating from them.
