Senate Proceedings – Senator Fatima Payman’s First Speech

Senator Fatima Payman is a senator for Western Australia.

She was an organiser for the United Workers Union in 2018 and was a program coordinator for Edmund Rice Education Australia.

She was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and was naturalised as an Australian citizen in 2005.

Payman is the first hijab-wearing Muslim woman in the Australian Parliament.
