Health Ministry moves to resolve Muslim nurses’ uniform issue

The Ministry of Health has moved to find an immediate and permanent solution to concerns over the official uniforms of Muslim female nursing officers at Kalmunai Hospital and other hospitals.

The matter was discussed at a special meeting chaired by the Health Minister at the Parliamentary complex this morning, with Muslim and Tamil government MPs also taking part.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the sensitive issue, which has drawn attention in recent days, and stressed the need for a peaceful and practical solution that would ensure the smooth functioning of hospitals while safeguarding the rights of the nursing officers concerned and maintaining unity among all parties.

Accordingly, the Health Minister assured that immediate short-term measures would be introduced to address the current issue.

The minister also said a permanent, long-term solution would be identified and implemented promptly to prevent similar issues from arising in the future. (Newswire)
