First three obtain identical marks

Three students have come first obtaining 195 marks each in the Year Five scholarship examination, according to results released by the Examination Department.

Oshadhi Rashiprabha Fonseka of Kalutara Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Nethmi Ranaweera of Miriswatta Maha Vidyalaya, Dodamgoda and Naleem Zaky Ahamed of Kekirawa Muslim Maha Vidyalaya have obtained 195 marks, each jointly attaining first place in the all-island list.
The highest mark of last year was 196. The Grade Five Scholarship Examination was held on August 21 countrywide.
Two students have obtained the second place with 194 marks, Examinations Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe said. They are Lakshitha Sathsara Sumanapala of Medagama Maha Vidyalaya, Bibile and Parameswaran Shethuragavan of Neththaliyaru Tamil Vidyalaya, Visuvamadu West. Besides, four students have attained third place obtaining 193 marks.
Based on the Grade Five Scholarship Examination results, around 31,000 students have qualified to receive scholarships and enter popular schools. Accordingly, 16,000 students will enter popular schools while 15,000 will receive financial help as scholarships.
All the results of the Grade Five Scholarship examination, except the results of the Colombo district have already been posted to particular schools, but, the result of the Colombo district and suburbs will be released today. Therefore, principals of schools in the Colombo district and its suburbs can collect their result sheets by calling over at the Examinations Department prior to them being posted. Meanwhile, all results have also been released online and can be obtained by logging on to the Examination Department website www.doenets.lk.
