Sailan Muslim Foundation notes with concern the latest tension in Aluthgama and calls upon all concerned to exercise restraint.
It calls upon the government to take urgent steps to end the escalating trend towards anarchy and mob rule by mischief makers hiding behind the façade of patriotism, and to arrest all those found guilty of violence or inciting violence.
At the same time, it calls upon members of the Muslim community to be patient in the face of adversity and not to take the law into their own hands. There is also a need to be vigilant and not be misled by rumours. There is reason to believe that mischief makers posing behind the façade of Sinhala Buddhism are attempting to provoke a major conflict between the peace-loving Sinhalese and Muslims of our country.
