Muslim Aid donates LKR 2.2 million worth of Electronic and E-Learning Equipment to Trincomalee Zonal Education Office

On the 15th of July 2021, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka donated LKR 2.2 million worth of E-learning equipment and electronic items to the Trincomalee Zonal Education Office. The event was organized by the Zonal Education Office in association with Muslim Aid Sri Lanka.
 
Eastern Provincial Director of Education Mr.M.D.A. Nizam graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and formally received the donation from the special guest Ms. Nadiya, Programme Manager – Education, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka. The consignment of equipment was then handed over to the Zonal Education Office Director, Mrs. S.Sritharan. Muslim Aid Sri Lanka’s District Programme Coordinator, Mr. Saleem Thasneem and other staff, along with senior staff of the Zonal Education Office also participated in the event.
 
In a special address to the audience, the Eastern Provincial Director of Education said, “Muslim Aid has provided these devices at the appropriate time. Muslim Aid’s support at this juncture will improve the distanced education system; while also enhancing the power of physical teaching during this crucial time of Covid -19, through specialized E-learning devices. Furthermore, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka continues to seek our advice in the best possible way, taking into account the educational needs of the Trincomalee District.
 
The Provincial Education Director initiated the activities of the day by writing his on the e-board the phrase: ‘A great start’. Welcoming the gathering, Trincomalee District Director of Education S. Sritharan appreciated saying “This contribution by Muslim Aid Sri Lanka has directly benefited tens of thousands of students in the midst of the current Covid crisis and beyond. This donation will further strengthen the teaching and related management activities that our Zonal Education Office has been undertaking”.
 
The donation package includes a digital electronic device called an Interactive Digital Board (Smartboard), a Duplo printing machine, mini-printers; a camera, laptops, and a multimedia projector. The donation was made under the one-year ‘Education Improvement Program’ launched last March with the aim of improving the educational qualifications of students in Trincomalee and Kuchchaveli regions. Vulnerable border village schools are struggling with the ongoing online remote teaching system and need to overcome these challenges to provide educational facilities to students without interruption. It is noteworthy that the above educational programme was designed in consultation with the Eastern Provincial Education Department and the Trincomalee Zonal Education Office, taking into account the needs of the Zonal Education Office and 20 selected schools for further development.
Additionally, a group of schools in need have been identified for renovation of laboratories and libraries and providing furniture under this education program. This educational development programme was also designed to include awareness activities for students and parents; and specialized training programs for principals and teachers. More than a thousand students, parents and school development committees from 20 schools are benefiting through motivation and awareness programs under this project.
 
After concluding the handing over, the chief guest and key officers participated in the medals and certificate awarding ceremony for students who won Gold and Silver in the National Mathematical quiz competition, and conveyed their appreciation for the Zonal Department office and the winners.
