REPORT ON THE PROGRESS OF GCE(A) PERFORMANCE AND FUTURE COMMITMENT BY SAILAN MUSLIM AND ZACOBA (Feb 2012)

On the request of the Principal Mohamed Jiffry, the undersigned took the initiate to promote the project ‘P 200’ , which was aimed at improving the GCE(A) level results at Zahira College.

The report submitted by the Principal is given below:

PROJECT :                       P 200

DONOR:                         ZACOBA (Canada) and Sailan Muslim Foundation

FUNDS:                          Rs.  211,000.00 .                                                                                                     COST TO DATE              Rs.    86,000.00 .

OBJECTIVE:

The project started 200 days countdown to G.C.E   A/L 2011. The aim was to improve on the quality of the performance at the GCE A/L.

The project took off with great enthusiasm as there were sufficient funds to meet the strength of the project. Afternoon and night classes were set up and outsource personals were recruited. Some old Zahirians joined this project and didn’t charge a fee resulting saving to the fund.

Yet it fell short of expectation due to low attendance where the students went for tuition classes elsewhere, especially at the latter part of the project which short circuited the full scope of the project. Hence the project was stopped halfway in order to continue with similar project next year.

In many respect it was an experimental project in discovering what works best to shift the student performance to better. We realized that we should outline our objectives and carefully plan the working strategies to minimize the risk.

We are optimistic that 2012, our achievement rate will be worthy of the sponsor’s investment.

PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS WITH RESPECT TO ‘Z’ SCORE (Over 1)

At a meeting held on Wednesday the Principal updated the undersigned the problems Zahira is facing in general and education in particular. As we are falling short in Science stream Principal agreed with me, on behalf of ZACOBA and Sailan Muslim Foundation, that we should concentrate on Science stream in the GCE (A) level and I agreed to spend the balance on the science students.

The following chart shows the poor performance in Science stream:
