Janabah is a state of major ritual impurity in Islam that prevents Muslims from performing ritual duties like prayer. It can be caused by contact with semen, such as through sexual intercourse or ejaculation, whether voluntary or involuntary, and whether the person is asleep or awake. A person in this state is called junub.
