LTTE political wing leader B. Nadesan has said that it was some evil forces within the group that was responsible for the eviction of thousands of Muslims from Jaffna.
In an interview published in the Tamil Nadu-based family magazine Kumudam, Nadesan said:
“Jaffna Muslims are our brothers. They are our flesh and blood. It was some evil forces which tried to bring our organization into disrepute that evicted them from Jaffna. At that time, our leader Prabhakaran was in a remote location due to security reasons. When he heard about the incident, he ordered that tough action be taken against those who ordered the eviction of the Muslims from Jaffna.
“Even today we ask the Muslims to come back to Jaffna. But they say they will come only after Jaffna comes under our control. They say they prefer to live under our care.”
About 90,000 Muslims were ordered to leave the Jaffna peninsula in October 1990s in what subsequently came to be known as the ethnic cleansing of Sri Lanka Muslims of the north.

Salaam Alaikum Brothers and Sisters
The Muslims of Sri Lanka should not accept these empty words. Soon the LTTE will say that the same evil forces were responsible for the Kathankuddy Massacre also and that the LTTE are not responsible.
Given the situation in Sri Lanka, it is very important that we strengthen our ties with Sri Lanka. Our rich history with the Sinhalese clearly shows that the Muslims are an integral part of the nation. The level of trust between our two communities goes back over a thousand years.
Living in the city of Toronto, to see the national flag of Sri Lanka being burnt by LTTE thugs, and at the same time observing the flag of a proscribed terrorist group being allowed to be displayed openly unhindered, is indeed a very traumatic experience.
In Canada and throughout various countries there are numerous societies run by both Muslim and Sinhalese Sri Lankans. These various societies need to unite together to help defend their homeland. I would even be willing to contribute financially to help. I am sure this will be the same for all other Sri Lankans living in other countries.
Jazakallah Khair
