Thousands of Sri Lankans have rallied to condemn a United Nations resolution that calls on the government to look into alleged war crimes during the last days of the country's civil war.
The protesters, mainly Muslims from all the villages of Sri lanka, wearing white shirt and white cap, who were joined by other Professional Associations, paraded along Galle Road for a distance of three to four Kilometers and were marching towards the American Embassy but were stopped at Colpety Junction by the Security Forces. Selected few were allowed to proceed to hand over their demands to the US embassy in the capital Colombo on Thursday.
It was obvious from the placards and banners that the Sri Lankans were behind the President Mahinda Rajapakse and the Government of Sri Lanka and urged all peace loving countries to refrain from supporting the double standard practiced by the West.
The Resolution proposed by US and their Alliances, with hidden agenda, are very much interested in creating problems in a country, which is working towards peace, after eliminating the terrorists. The people, Muslims Sinhalese and Tamils, living in harmony have arranged the protests across the country against the resolution, which it calls interference in Sri Lanka's affairs.
At least 30,000 people marched along Galle Road, mostly well disciplined Muslims, on Thursday to denounce the proposed resolution. Muslims recalled the terrorist attacks carried out by the LTTE two decades ago and questioned the West “Why no actions were not taken then?. Why now? Where was the Human Rights then?.Aren’t the Muslims Human?
Sri Lanka's civil war ended in 2009 when government troops crushed terrorist Tamil Tiger rebels, known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). who were supported by those who wanted a divided Sri Lanka. Now it is known to all Sri Lankans the hidden agenda of the rebels and has joined hands with the Government to promote peace and harmony.
