Did you know that the best 10 days of the year are coming? Dhul Hijjah is one of the sacred months and the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the most blessed days of the year.
Here are 5 ways to prepare for those 10 days:
1. Learn about it’s Virtues
In order to understand the importance of something, we must first know its virtues. Let us try to learn about the virtues of Dhul Hijjah through articles and videos online. This article can be a good start.
2. Make a Timetable
Unlike Ramadan, Dhul Hijjah feels like a normal month as there isn’t Tarawih and we don’t have to get up for Suhoor or prepare for Iftar. This is why we should try to make our own timetable so that we maximise these 10 days. Perhaps we can set a time where we recite the Qur’an and reflect over the verses or make plans to wake up for Tahajjud a few minutes before Suhoor time if we are planning to keep optional fasts.
3. Make Plans to Fast
Fasting in Dhul Hijjah has a lot of virtues. We should try to keep optional fasts in these 10 days. If we can’t fast on the first 8 days of Dhul Hijjah, we should try to fast on the day of Arafah which is on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah.
Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) is reported to have said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is an expiation (of sins) for two years, the year preceding it and the year following it.” (Reported by Ibn Majah)
4. Arrange your Udhiyyah & Reflect
If it is obligatory on you, be sure to arrange your Udhiyyah / QurbaniThe word “qurbani” means sacrifice in many languages, and the word “udhiya,” in Arabic, refers to the specific animal that is sacrificed on Eid ul-Adha. This sacrifice is made by the head of the household on behalf of the family. It can either be a sheep, goat, a portion of a camel or a portion of a cow. Along with that, We should try to reflect on Ibrahim (as)‘s story and teach our young one’s about his efforts and sacrifices. Let us try to think about what we are prepared to sacrifice for the sake of Allah whether it’s our time volunteering for an Islamic organisation or donating our money to help those in need.
5. Give Charity
Try to give a small amount of charity on each day of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.
