Our purpose is to secure and promote the legitimate interests of the Sri Lankan Muslims, considering as legitimate only those Muslim interests that are consistent with the national interest. It is apolitical and non profit making effort. The other reason is that Muslim politicians have been marginalized to a serious extent over many decades, and cannot therefore fully represent Muslim interests. An effective Muslim website can be useful in bringing about this change. Our aim is to unite our community to speak with one voice and to promote an understanding and interactive dialogue with other communities. Born in Beruwela, Sri Lanka, an old boy of Zahira College Colombo. Presently residing in Canada. Obatined an honours degree in Engineering in 1960 at the Universty of Ceylon. International Consultant had worked in Ceylon,Canada, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.Presently free lance consultant residing in Canada but winter months in Sri Lanka. Heavily involved in volunteer and social services. Married to Jiffriya Hathy with three children Iftikhar Barrie, Raihana Barrie and radhia Barrie. All married and we have fifteen grand children Masha Allah. Currently an active social worker.

Asiff Hussein

Asiff Hussein is a Freelance Writer and Author of a number of publications in thefields of Ethnology, Sociology and Linguistics. Hussein served as a Journalist at theBusiness Desk of the Sunday Times before joining the Sunday Observer where he servedin the Business and Features Desks. He has contributed numerous articles on varioustopics which have been published in the newspapers and on the Internet. An Ethnological Study of the Muslims of SriLanka (Feb & July 2007 and September 2011), Zeylanica, a Study of the Peoples andLanguages of Sri Lanka (2009), Ivilly Pevilly. The Gastronome’s Guide to the CulinaryHistory & Heritage of Sri Lanka (2012); Tolerance in Islam (2012) and Caste in SriLanka. From Ancient Times to the Present Day (2013) He has also co-authored Memonsof Sri Lanka. Men, Memoirs, Milestones with Hameed Kareem (2006) and co-edited TheMuslim Heritage of Eastern Sri Lanka with S.H.M.Jameel (2011). A Sinhala translationof his book on Tolerance in Islam Islamaya Desana Agamika Ivasima was published in2014.He holds a B.A. Degree in Social Sciences from the Open University of Sri Lanka, aPost-graduate Diploma in Archaeology from the University of Kelaniya and a Diploma inJournalism from the Aquinas College of Higher Studies, Sri Lanka. He is also among theSri Lankan Alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Programme organised by theUS State Department, having participated in an IVLP Programme on Religion and SocialJustice in America on a tour that covered Washington, Huntsville, Birmingham, Santa Feand San Francisco from June 28thto July 16th2010.
