The department. of Muslim Religious and. Cultural Affairs announced here on Thursday, October 9 that it has selected 52 Hajj Travel Agents operators to function during the pilgrimage in 2026.
According to a statement made from Colombo the department of Muslim Religious affairs and Cultural Affairs, the selection was made by a board appointed by his department and an interview was conducted among the intended applicants.
The board has made its recommendations based on the respective applicants’ capabilities, financial strength and past performances.
Last year, there were 92 Hajj operators to handle 3,500 Sri Lankan pilgrims and this year the same load of pilgrims will be managed by only 52 Hajj operators.
Rejected applicants have been given a chance to appeal against the decision on or before 14 October to the director of the department of Muslim Religious affairs M. S. M Nawas.
