The Abrar Education Foundation held a heartfelt Scholarship Award Ceremony on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Al-Fasiyatul Nasriya Muslim Balika MV, Beruwala, aimed at supporting low-income students from six local Muslim and Sinhala schools.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, with the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd) Fahim Aziz, serving as the Chief Guest. Muhammad Abu Khalifa, the Director of Qatar Charity Sri Lanka, joined as the Guest of Honour.
Organized under the guidance of the founder and former minister of the Abrar Education Foundation, Al-Haj Imtiaz Bakir Makkar, and chaired by Al-Haj Muhammad Nizam (JP), the ceremony highlighted the foundation’s commitment to education.
Dr. Maulvi M. Azwar Asahim (Al-Azhari), Secretary of the Abrar Education Foundation, delivered the welcome speech. Scholarships were awarded to 50 deserving students from the following schools:
- Al-Fasiyatul Nasriya Muslim Balika MV
- Al-Fasiyatul Nasriya Boys’ School
- Zam Refai Hajiar Maha Vidyalaya
- I.L.M. Samsudeen Vidyalaya
- Massala Buddhist Junior School
During the event, the High Commissioner of Pakistan also presented a memento to the Abrar Education Foundation in recognition of its outstanding service to the community.
Adding a special touch, the foundation honored Ms. Fathima Safra Raji, an alumna of Al-Fasiyatul Nasriya Muslim Balika MV and a high-ranking civil servant, for her inspiring achievements.
In his address, the High Commissioner emphasized the long-standing and close ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, highlighting the mutual support and collaboration between the two nations.
The event underscores the vital role organizations like the Abrar Education Foundation play in empowering underprivileged students through education, bridging communities, and fostering future leaders.
