What other Religions say about Riba ?

The universal nature of these principles is immediately apparent even at a cursory glance of Non Muslim literature . Usury was prohibited in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible , while Shakespeare and many other writers , particularly those writing in the 19th century ,have attacked the barbarity of the practice .Much of the morality championed by Victorian writers such as Dickens ranging from the equitable distribution of wealth through to man’s fundamental right to work -is clearly present in modern Islamic Society. These some of the quotations from other religions on Riba.

“ Take thou no usury of him : but fear God……Thou shalt not give him the money upon Usury nor lend him thy victuals for increase.”

Leviticus 25; 36-37

“ When you lend money to any of my people you shall not be to him as creditor , nor shall you impose upon him any interest .”

The Torah

“ Right Livelihood deals with right and harmless occupation . There are five kinds of trades , which should be avoided ………

It…includes the lending of money at excessively high interest (Usury).”
