SLMC founder chairman Cegu Isadean passes away

AKKARAIPATTU :,Founder member of SLMC and former minister Cegu Izzaddeen, 82 , and father of Hasana Cegu Izzaddeen Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Harini passed away in his hometown of AKKARAIPATTU on Thursday early morning on Nov. 28.

Mohamed Hasan Cegu Issadeen (1944–2024): A Legacy of Leadership

Mohamed Hasan Cegu Issadeen, born on May 12, 1944, was a prominent Sri Lankan politician and the founder and chairman of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). His instrumental role in drafting the party’s constitution and his tireless efforts to strengthen its influence marked him as a key figure in its history.

Issadeen’s political career spanned several decades, during which he served as a Member of Parliament and held various government positions. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the merged North-Eastern Provincial Council and contributed significantly through roles such as Deputy Minister and Minister for portfolios including Export Development, Mass Media Information, Rural Economic Development, and Highways.

Known for his eloquence and leadership, Issadeen’s contributions to the development of the Muslim community and his dedication to national progress have left a lasting legacy.
