The statement emphasized that the Election Law strongly protects the rights of the voters and the candidates.
The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday in a communiquŽ said the cheap and lowly attitude of a few western governments cannot undermine the democratic nature of the presidential election. It called on the said regimes to review their faulty approach to Iranian developments.
Part of the statement said “The participation of 85 percent of voters shows, among things, that our people are keen on determining their own fate and attach credence to the role of their votes in the future of the country. The unprecedented turnout demonstrated the legitimacy of the Islamic system more than ever before.
This is while the number of Iranian expatriates who participated in the elections increased significantly compared to the past. Despite the propaganda campaign of enemies this (voter turnout) is indeed a huge asset that contributes to the glory of the nation,“ Mehr News Agency reported.
It emphasized that the Election Law strongly protects the rights of the voters and the candidates.
“As long as the Guardians Council (GC), as the sole competent legal authority, has not looked into the complaints of the aspirants who lost, distorting the result of vote is an insult to the vote of the majority and contradicts the principles of democracy and the notion of respect for the rights of others.
Given that the complaints are being examined within a legal frameworkÉ hasty, irresponsible and interventionist stances of some foreign officials are an insult to the intelligence of the people and the vote of the majority. The presence of hundreds of foreign correspondents during the election is yet another indication of the transparency of the exercise and performance of a religious-oriented democracy.
However, some foreign countries have supported the illegal protests of and turmoil created by some opportunists in an uncalculated, hasty and impudent mannerÉand despite all democratic principles and accepted international norms are targeting the glorious image of the Islamic system.“
It underlined that Iran considers the performance of countries that have a dark track record of terrorism, supporting colonialism and exploitation of oppressed nations, promulgating despotism and creating problems across the world as contemptible and believes they cannot raise doubts about the validity of the vote.
After the results of the presidential election were announced on Saturday, some people, especially the youth, deceived by the foreign radio and TV networks, poured into in protest. They claim to be supporters of the defeated reformist presidential candidate, Mir Hossein Mousavi who won 13 million votes, and believe the votes should be recounted.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a second and last term in a landslide with 24.5 million votes.
