Dear All
Scholarships for the children of the Armed Forces Personnel who lost their lives in the war
The Armed Forces together with the Police have been successful in their military efforts against the LTTE. These achievements have received wide support and appreciation throughout the country, particularly in the South. The Muslims are seen as a community not appreciating these efforts.
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka has initiated a scholarship fund on behalf of the community to support the children of the armed forces personnel. This is in appreciation of their services regardless of any personal or political affiliation. Each scholarship would be Rs.10, 000.00 and will be granted through the RANA VIRU Fund. The target is to award 500 such Scholarships worth a total of Rs.5.0 million. The programme will be launched when Rs.1.0 million of sponsorship is reached.
The Muslim Council is pleased to provide you with an opportunity to participate in this project with your generous contributions.
A ceremony to award scholarships will be held during the week commencing Independence Day 2009 with the participation of the Secretary, Ministry of Defense, the Commanders of the Armed Services and the Inspector General of Police. We are also looking at the option of having the ceremonial launch at Temple Trees enabling H E President Rajapaksha to participate.
A brochure with the names of all sponsors would be distributed at the ceremony. This event is expected to have wide media coverage and will create better awareness of Muslim support and contributions to the Sri Lankan forces in their hour of need.
While we thank you for your kind consideration, your urgent response would be appreciated. In view of the limited time available, we would appreciate if you would kindly remit your contribution to the account of the Education fund of the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka at Muslim Commercial bank A/C N0. 004021007099 swift-code MUCBLKLC or forward your cheque drawn in favour of the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka.
Jazakallah Khiaran
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka
