New facility to conduct the last rites of a janaza

Fulfilling a vital need of Muslims living in crowded urban areas, a new facility was opened recently at Maharagama to enable them to conduct the last rites of a janaza.

The facility known as “khidmathul Janaaiz Building” was opened recently at the Ghafooriya Arabic College premises in the presence of a distinguished gathering, including Navaz Caffoor and Zubair Caffoor, grandsons of the late N.D.H. Abdul Caffoor, the donor of the vast land where the Ghaffooriya Arabic College now stands.

The building is equipped with facilities for bathing and shrouding the body in kaffan in a Shariah-compliant manner. It also has two separate waiting halls for ladies and gents so that visitors can meet the family members and pay their last respects to the janaza.

Officials of the new facility say many Muslims today live in apartments and flats and they face many problems when conducting final arrangements associated with bathing and carrying the janaza out of the apartment building and space to accommodate visitors. Since this building is located close to the masjid and the burial ground, final arrangements can be completed conveniently with minimum hindrance, they say.

This concept of a janaza service building is common in the Middle East where the final respects and rites are conducted briskly as per Islamic requirements. It is also the same in most developed countries.

This building and related services are now available and further clarification can be obtained from the Maharagama Janaza Society on telephone numbers 0773022182, 0727022182, 0718267725 or 0771583309.
