
Seyed Hameed Maulana, a prominent figure in the Sri Lankan community , and a tireless advocate for Sri Lankan in Saudi Arabia, passed away last night in Riyadh at the age of 91. – On May 19 – 2025
Arriving in Riyadh in 1975, Maulana quickly established himself as a successful entrepreneur by founding a hotel supply company that became a central player in the city’s hospitality industry. Beyond business, he devoted his life to serving the Sri Lankan community, working closely with every Sri Lankan ambassador to Saudi Arabia over the past five decades to support his fellow citizens abroad.
Widely respected for his philanthropy and leadership, Maulana also used social media, especially his X (formerly Twitter) platform, and articles to share news and commentary related to Sri Lanka, further strengthening his connection to his homeland.
Born in Weligama, Maulana was the son-in-law of the late Seyed Alawi Maulana, the former Governor of Sri Lanka’s Western Province and a noted political figure.
His funeral is scheduled to take place in Riyadh today, following the Maghrib prayers.
He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, community service, and enduring ties between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.
