The first Muslim news reader at Rupavahini, Ayesha Junaideen passes away

Aysha Junaideen a veteran broadcaster and TV newsreader  passed away on 22nd October, in Colombo. The interment of the Janaza took place in Kuppiyawatte Muslim Burial Ground after Asr prayer on 23rd Monday.

She was a commerce graduate hailed from Madampe of Puttalam district.  She joined SLBC Muslim Service as a producer in 1973. Many popular programmes were produced by her and she obtained popularity nationally as well as in states like Tamilnadu. She was also a newsreader of Tamil Service of SLBC.  In 1983 she was called by Sri Lanka Rupavahini to read Tamil news. It made her first Muslim female to read news in Tv. 

She also engaged in the field of interpretation and many programmes in Rupavahini broadcast with her subtitles. 

She was honoured by many media organisations and  also received the prestigious  Kalaboosana award given by Govt. of Sri Lanka.
