Similarly, the ACJU and the Sri Lankan Muslim community reaffirm our support for a free and independent Palestinian state and strongly condemn the unlawful genocide taking place in Palestine.
Recent reports regarding the arrest of a young man for displaying a sticker opposing the atrocities in Palestine have raised concerns in society.
Upon inquiry, the police authorities informed our representatives that the arrest was not solely due to the sticker but was linked to other unspecified concerns. The ACJU has formally requested official documentation detailing the charges.
We are currently consulting with relevant organizations and legal experts to ensure a just resolution of this matter and will take appropriate steps as necessary.
We urge all citizens to express their views responsibly, ensuring that their actions do not compromise national unity or security.
At the same time, Sri Lanka must uphold the democratic right to peaceful expression, provided it does not threaten national security or social harmony.
