Sri Lanka’s cricket team beat Pakistan in the Asian Cup final in Dhaka on Saturday. Sri Lanka was the only unbeaten team in the run up to the final, while the host Bangladesh remained win less. This is Sri Lanka’s fifth win in the ‘Asian Derby’ since 1985.
India also has won a similar number while Pakistan has won it twice.
Sri Lanka’s superb all round performance of disciplined bowling, fielding and focused batting proved without any doubt the trump card for its easy victory.
All the newly introduced young players did not let down the selectors and their contributions really helped the team to remain unbeaten. The mixture of newcomers with the seniors really paid dividend. Sri Lanka with its absolute efficiency rather than any flamboyant approach out played its opponents easily.
While young Thirimanne headed the batting aggregate in the tournament Malinga did it in his bowling and it is remarkable that he claimed the all five Pakistani wickets fell in the final. Congratulations Sri Lanka, keep up the good work.
