Justice Ameer Ismail passes away
Retired Supreme Court judge Ameer Ismail passed away yesterday.
Educated at Wesley College, Colombo, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ceylon and was sworn in as an advocate in 1969.
He joined the Attorney General’s Department as a Crown Counsel in 1971 and was later promoted to Senior State Counsel. He was appointed as a High Court Judge in 1983, as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 1990, and as President of the Court of Appeal in 1998.
In 1999, Justice Ismail was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Justice Ismail was also the Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) from 2005 to 2010.
His remains are lying at No. 19 Boswell Place, Colombo 6. The burial will take place at Dehiwala Muhiyyaddeen Grand Jumma Mosque Burial Ground at 5 a.m. today.
