Janaza Awareness Programme on Legal Procedures Following One’s Death

The Maligawatte Masjid Federation organized an insightful Janaza Awareness Programme on Legal Procedures After Death at the Maligawatte Jumma Masjid, was held after Isha prayers on Tuesday 21st October

The special session was conducted by Ashraf Roomy, City Coroner and Attorney-at-Law, who provided valuable guidance on the legal steps to be followed when a person passes away either at home or at a hospital in Sri Lanka.

The session covered several key topics, including:

  1. How to register a death
  2. When and why to inform the police
  3. The role of the coroner and the need for postmortem
  4. How to obtain the official death certificate
  5. Legal procedures for burial

The event was graced by the President of the Maligawatte Masjid Federation, Moulavi Al Hafiz Shiyam Azhar Hashimi, the General Secretary, M.T.M. Illyas, the Treasurer, Mr. Farhath Siddique, and the Vice President, Al Haj M.Z.M. Yasir.
In addition, a few members of the Board of Management of the Maligawatte Grand Jumma Masjid were also present at the session, showing their support for this meaningful initiative.

The programme aimed to create awareness and help families handle sensitive situations responsibly and lawfully, reflecting the Federation’s ongoing commitment to community welfare, legal literacy, and social responsibility.
