Senior journalist Thaha Muzammil passes away

Senior journalist Thaha Muzammil, a stalwart in Sri Lanka’s media landscape, has passed away. His funeral is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Mr. Muzammil’s illustrious career was marked by his unwavering commitment to press freedom and ethical journalism. He served as the Treasurer of the Free Media Movement (FMM), an organization dedicated to advocating for media freedom in Sri Lanka. His leadership and dedication significantly contributed to the organization’s mission of promoting free and independent journalism.

In addition to his role at FMM, Mr. Muzammil was the National Coordinator for the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), where he worked tirelessly to uphold the rights of journalists and promote transparency across the region. His efforts have left an indelible mark on the media community, inspiring many to pursue truth and integrity in their reporting.LinkedIn

The loss of Mr. Thaha Muzammil is deeply felt by colleagues, friends, and the broader journalistic community. His legacy of courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to media freedom will continue to inspire future generations.

He was the beloved son of Marhoom Thaha and Marhooma Sitthy Razeena.
He leaves behind his beloved children:
Nazreen, Mujahidh, Zahara, Rizna, Mahjubah, and Muthahhara.
He was the loving brother of Marhoom Nizam, Marhoom Nawaz, and Rilaya, Zarina, Zuhry, and Rumy.
